AQ and 99 facing a raise
 

The starting hands table from SSHE says that in MP facing a single raise the AQ and 99 should be a reraise but in LP position against a raise they both become a call, does this make sense?

I suppose it's not the silliest idea in the world. Both hands would be better heads-up than in a volume pot (assuming AQo), so clear everyone out by raising in MP. In LP, it's more likely there will be callers in front, and you'll create the volume pot you don't want.

MP raise makes players call 2 cold, which they're way less apt to do.

LP raise makes a huge pot and is for value.

I think you misunderstood, in LP a call of a raise is suggested with AQ and 99 while in MP a reraise is suggested. I agree the raise of either hand in MP will make them call two cold and will thin the field so why then wouldn't you reraise it in LP also?

Most small stakes live players don't fold preflop once they have put money in the pot. So while they might fold their AT if its two cold to them before they act but if they limp they will then call two bets afterwards.

I think the reraise is one for isolation and in order to steal the button when in middle position? I'm not sure my logic could be way off this.

Obviously if you're on or near the button your position in the rest of the hand is assured.

Sparky, I'd say that's a minor glitch, as I'd tend to 3-bet both of those hands in both situations.
When in doubt, raise. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
