stars $100, final 3 tables. plans to CR foiled by confusing overbet?

this happened a few days ago. im sorry as i don't have exact information as far as how many left, but i believe it was like 21 or 22 left. 1st place was 8k. we have hardly seen any flops in last half hour. play was fairly standard and no notes/reads of any significance. preflop was standard? is this a good spot for a squeeze? im not sure what my exact plan was on that flop. should i be leading out here? checkraising? thanks for any and all comments.

All in.

Most people are not overbetting AQ/set here because they want to get value from their hands. Expect to see TJ/club draw A TON

I definitely like a lead on this flop. It accomplishes two things: you get to see what "Grinder" does, and you say to any PFR with brains that you have a hand; if he comes over the top, you can fold pretty confidently IMO.

This is the kind of board that makes me very uneasy. I am definitely NOT eager to stack off here. If I pick the pot up with a flop bet, great. If I get called, reevaluate the turn. If I get raised, fold.

this is what i was thinking as my time clock ran out on me. i would like to think no way he bets a set or top pair like this (AQ or KQ), but i've seen guys bet in that manner on drawy boards. his bet to a reasonable person def looks like flush draw or J10 for oe draw. fwiw i did fold and immeadiatly started to second guess myself. however the table was ultra soft and i really felt i could get my money in a much better spot.

Why is it that if he made a normal bet (representing X amount of strength) you were planning on check-raising but when he made an overbet (representing less than X strength) you decided to fold?

It seems like you were more willing to get your money in when you had a lesser chance of winning the hand against his given range

very good point you make. actually in all honesty im not even certain im going to check-raise here. i guess my check on the flop was more or less to get more information and then make my decision. being so shallow a check-raise is prolly not even a good play.

isn't this the type of hand where on that flop you have to make a decision either you are willing to go broke with that hand or not? because if i lead bet can i fold to a shove? as not only hands that are ahead, but even draws will shove over my bet on the flop. this hands seems so risky given the strength of my hand and that board.

With 2 pot sized bets left you will never be able to get off of a flopped pair or a flopped draw. You need to decide if you are playing for stacks before you call pf.
