What does your relationship with your mother mean?

This often pops up in the relationship threads and I think it's worthy of one of its own, what do relationships with your mothers as young male adults mean?

For example my mother is quite introverted i'm very extroverted. My mother is very loving in here affection when i'm around but for example when I lived overseas she wouldn't call more than once a month at most and I would never call her, she also rarely says I love you. Does this mean anything?

Contrast this with my attitudes on women, I basically have never met a women I think is intelligent. I definitely view them as below me. However I think my mum is very very smart actually perhaps the only person i've ever met who is more intelligent than myself.

OOT please analyse me from this very small snippet of my life.

But I would also be interested at how other peoples relationships with their mothers (perhaps a father relationship thread could be seperated) effect them.

FWIW, I have found that, as a girlfriend, all guys have treated me very similarly to how they treat their mother. For example, a guy may be* superficially nice but when anything unpleasant comes up, he turns mean and condescending. If a guy acts as if his mother is a retard and I completely disagree with him, that is generally my sign to run.

Of course, take this insight with a grain of salt as I am an inferior female.

That's an interesting one because we always hear that men are looking for women like there mother, which actually totally conflicts with me i've always been interested in asian women and i'm thoroughly white.

I treat my mother like someone I love, who frequently annoys me. Her annoying qualities are very 'mommish' - frets over / obsessed with stupid things, constant, low-key nagger, always notices what I regard as the least important details first (I used to joke that I could tell her I was dying of cancer and she'd ask why I couldn't dying-of-cancer my dirty laundry out of the bathroom), is kind of a drag on my jokes / conversation. (This is just what annoys me. She still rules.)

I do not treat girls like my mother because I would not date my mother, or anyone like her. Filtering process goes a little like this.

Cardo: sly witticism
Girl: (wooooooooosh)
Cardo: nonplussed, tries again
Girl: (woooooooooosh, big confused smile)
Cardo: (marks this one down in red ink, strolls over to punch bowl)

Yes sorry I wrote that kind of wrong, I meant i've never met a women who was more intelligent than her, I've met many men especially some of my male cousins who are very sucessful who i'm in total awe of.

Also my mum is a fairly active feminist and I agree with that mindset (I grew up in a very left wing family although I am actually more of a unionist myself).

amplify: sly witticism
girl: witty retort
amplify: brilliant metaphor
girl: apt literary reference
amplify: you remind me of my mother
girl: does that mean you dont want a BJ?

heh I believe in equality, I just don't think women are smart, they are not rational. I don't think these two ideas are mutually exclusive.

All men want to sleep with their mother, he compares every girl he meets to his mom, but none of them stand up to her intelligence, therefore he looks down on them.
