More tales of rude/dangerous players (lc)
 

I've read many stories about outrageous player behavior (and management doing nothing about it) here and elsewhere, but hadn't personally seen anything this crazy until last night.

Playing at Hollywood Park. An angry Asian guy on my right is generally being a dick, throwing cards at dealer, slamming fist on table, etc. Dealer has warned player about 5 times.

Player takes beat, grabs empty chip rack and slams it on cupholder, shattering it. Shards of plastic go everywhere, including one that hits right under my eye. Player storms off.

After cleaning up table, I ask what dealer plans to do. She calls floor and says there is a "dangerous player" sitting out. I jump in and tell the story (dealer omitted details...like shattering the rack). I say that want him kicked out, or at least moved. Floor leaves.

Player returns about 10 minutes later. Dealer says nothing. I ask for floorman. Floor doesn't come. I get up and find floorman who says he's "busy" but will be over soon. Meanwhile, we're playing. Another guy bluffs angry player and shows his cards to dealer. He's about to show the bluff and dealer says to bluffer "don't show; he's crazy and who knows what he'll do!"

About 15 mins later, floor comes. I again demand that angry player be removed. Floor asks (!) angry guy if he plans to rebuy (he is short at this point). Angry guy says no. Floor stands at the table in an apparent daze. I sit out.

Angry guy goes busto, slams fist into table knocking over stacks, and walks out without so much as a warning.

Crazy world.

He probably had other things going on his life that were bothering him. Maybe his wife just left him for the pool boy

We get Angry Asian Guy types all the time, and I wish they were ejected a lot more than they are. All they do is upset people and ruin tables. Complaining or acting like an ass is one thing, but when people are throwing cards and breaking racks they need to go.

For a second I was wondering why the dealer didn't tell the floor everything, but you mentioned it was a female. They can be in tough spots sometimes with scary players, whereas bigger guys don't have to be as concerned. Worse, she might be used to dealing with weak supervisors.

I have a low threshold for having cards or anything else thrown at me though. To me that's well outside the realm of 'things my job requires me to put up with.' I'm also fortunate to have strong supervisors.

I hear it's especially awful in CA, though.

Um, you were hit under the eye, so why didn't you immediately phone the police and file a report? I would have also politely informed the floor that I was phoning the police, but I would not have allowed them to stop me from phoning the police. You have damages coming from this player for striking you near the eye. If it wasn't a casino, you would phoned the police and had this person arrested, and you'd already be getting police report, attorney, etc. for the lawsuit. I no longer trust private security to take care of me. Private security is about CYA for the resort or casino. When a crime is committed against my person, I phone the police.

This is one valid reason for having your cell phone at the table. Also, if it has a camera, by all means take a photo of the person for future reference.

Assault and battery. It's a criminal offense, look it up. They don't have those in California? I'd be mighty surprised. If you guys want to lay down and take it when you're struck in the eye, then don't pretend you have yarbles. Actually, I just spoke to a man who received $14,000 from the card room in a similar case, to settle his suit, so maybe some people just have better attorneys than you do. For sure if you're too cowardly to report to the police when you're struck in the face, then you will continue to be bullied there and elsewhere in your life.

Assault: A crime that occurs when one person tries to physically harm another in a way that makes the person under attack feel immediately threatened. Actual physical contact is not necessary; threatening gestures that would alarm any reasonable person can constitute an assault.

Battery: A crime consisting of physical contact that is intended to harm someone. Unintentional harmful contact is not battery, no mater how careless the behavior or how severe the injury.

Find where the action fits either definition.

1. You said to sue the player, not the club.
2. OP was not cut or otherwise "injured", unless he left something out. Where are the damages?
