Question on Stars 500/1000 hand
 

Newhizzle and BUTCH ACIDY had been going at it for a very large number of hours before this hand occurred. I am a low limit player and was curious as to the logic behind the turn in this hand. Is it possible that Newhizzle folds to a turn cap in this situation? Is it worth going for a river/check raise instead of a turn cap + lead out?

I think Cassidy is simply too worried that he's behind to put additional action in.

If Acidy was indeed going for a river checkraise, it is not necessarily because he felt newhizzle would fold to a turn cap. If the river is a club or pairs the board, he can choose to check/call. This might be a good play if he thinks newhizzle's range contains enough sets or overpairs with a club.

Joe is clearly going for a c/r here, but i think the A is a poor card to go for it on. I am curious as to what Newhizzles hand is here as it seem to be a very good check IMO.

As for the original question, the turn action is quite obvious, and I actually think Joe should have capped it, however perhaps there were some other factors that cannot be ascertained in this post.

its good for balancing and the metagame to every so often
take the oppurtunity to call a third bet on the turn
and then c/r the river for value instead of
capping the turn and betting out

we diversify our range on the river which
presents us with new oppurtunites to be able

to c/r bluff and bluffcap with a higher rate of success
and to also decrease our chances of being bluff/3betted

by the way we played this particular hand
busted draws we can now occassionally
bluff more convicingly than before

however you must give up value on the turn and not cap
in order to let your opponent retain the aggression

but if it looks like your
opponent may check it thru
then by all means bet the river

The problem here with forgoing the turn cap and attempting to c/r the river, is that it could too easily fail. You have to put newhizzle on two pair, a set, or a straight and there are just too many river cards he would have to check behind. So getting the money in while you can is best.

I think he got a little greedy with the c/r attempt on the river, but it's not bad, since the ace us as good a card as any to go for it.
