I've stayed at the Trop... Perfect if you're only going to crash in the room (clean enough), and a decent location at the south end of the Strip.

Cheap blackjack and table games, and you don't have to gamble too much to get nice comps like buffet tickets and stuff (just make sure you ask for comps before sitting down at the blackjack table or whatever). One wing of rooms is pretty old and the hallways are pretty institutional, see if you can stay in the newer part. Poker room is kind of a joke, but the 2 $1/2 NL tables running were pretty wild and overall probably the softest I've seen in Vegas on a non-weekend. But it's a really small room, so your mileage may vary with that.

Bottom line, you can't beat the price, and the location isn't too bad.
