Funny comedians

I have to admit, one of my favourite guilty pleasures is hiring out a few DVD's of some of the all-time great comedians like Eddie Murphy, Jay Leno and co, and nustling up for a big night in.

I'm going to be honest, I don't like any new comedians. Most of them are either copy cats, lack any sort of comedic timing, or simply don't have to confidence to really pull it off. Every time I turn on the comedy channel I see thousands of hacks to every one decent comedian. I never thought I was comedy snob, I routinely laugh at sitcoms and other types of television comedy.

So, comedy lovers, who's funny now days? Who can I exchange for the classics next time I have a big night in?

I really liked Mitch Hedberg, even though some people hate his delivery.

Martin Lawrence - "You So Crazy" is one of my alltime favorite standups.

As already mentioned, Dave Chappelle's HBO special(s) are great. There's a 30 minute one and a 60 minute one.

Steve Harvey - "One Man" was a 60 minute HBO special that was really good

Some of the older Def Comedy Jam's are just freakin classics.

Chris Rock - "Bring The Pain" and "Bigger and Blacker" are great 60 minute HBO specials. His third one, "Never Scared" blew, so don't waste your time with that.

you should really check out Demetri Martin. His delivery is great and he is an all around goof ball that knows how to write a good joke and put together a very good set. He's done stuff for the daily show on comedy central, and his segments for it have been excellent

I agree with most of the people mentioned so far, and have a few of my own to add:

Richard Pryor
Bill Hicks
Eddie Izzard
Robin Williams

Yea Eddie Izzard is great and relatively unknown at least among people I know. Definitely worth checking out though.
