Monitor Maintenance

What is the best way to clean my monitor (Samsung 204T)? I have a few random smudges on it. One is actually from some juice from my apple hitting the screen, and me being a genious and just wiping it with some toilet paper. That was like 6 months ago. Any chance this will come out?

Pretty much any office supply or big computer store is going to have monitor cleaner, some will have kits that are like little handi-wipe packets. Try them.

I just used lens-cleaning wipes (meant for glasses) on my LCD monitor and it worked great. Got all of the stains off, was streak free and dried quickly.

Ammonia will etch an lcd over time, won't it? It'd obviously be fine for glass(es) though, so I'm not sure that glasses-safe = lcd-safe.

The lens-cleaning wipes do not contain ammonia, they contain isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol).

I looked it up on Wikipedia and here is an excerpt from the Use section of the article:

I’m no expert, but if you don’t use it too often, it seems like it should be OK.

The wikipedia article on LCDs links to this guide: http://www.yepeoo.com/lcd-clean-p.html on how to clean LCDs.
