Sands in AC closing--Destoyed all the chips???

I know they were selling everything in the Sands when it was closing and I thought I might be able to make a set of chips if they were selling them off but I heard they are using a special grinder to DESTROY all the poker chips? Wouldn't they be come useless when the casino closed? Just seems like a waste of good chips to me.

I did think it was funny that they collected $17K in LOOSE CHANGE inbetween the slot machines...it's like lifting a huge couch cushion.

Yeah, I was in AC the first day of the Sands clearance sale, and was disappointed to hear you couldn't buy chips...glad I didn't wait in line just to look at bathroom fixtures.

The probably should destroy the chips because it would be too easy to alter them slightly and mix them in with a stack of chips from another casino. Almost all the chips in AC are pretty similar to each other except for the edge markings if you are just looking at a stack.

I have chips from the Sands, both AC and LV. Not complete sets, though. I played poker in both rooms when they were open.

One of the articles about the sale a couple weeks back quoted some manager type basically saying they had to destroy the chips because they're redeemable forever. The company still exists even if the location is closed, so presumably they'd still be on the hook for paying out if the chips got out. State gaming authorities seem to have pretty stringent rules on what happens to chips, even in non-NJ states where they're not necessarily good forever.

I think the destruction of the chips was actually required under NJ gambling regs.
