pocket 9\'s in late stages of live WSOP satellite
 

This is my first post so go ahead and flame away:) I would like some opinions on a hand I played last night at the WSOP satellite at Treasure Island in Minnesota.

The tournament situation is 50 players are remaining with top 11 getting paid. 1st place is the 10K seat to the main event + 20K in cash. 11th place is 1K.

Table Situation: Blinds are 100/200 with an ante of 25. I'm in position 4 on the table, with 1800 in chips. Big stack at the table is under the gun, with 5000 in chips. He has been playing aggressive and limping a lot. 2nd in chips is on the button with 3500 in chips. He has been playing solid. The rest of the table is short stacked. I think my image is tight aggressive, but I had recently doubled up 6 hands earlier when my A9s won against AJ.

The hand in question: UTG limps (which has been common), I look down to see pocket 9's. I raise it to 1000. My thinking at this point is that the blinds are headed my way, and I will quickly be all in with lesser hands. Getting in a race here is not a bad thing and I'm hoping to isolate against UTG. Folds all around to the button, who insta moves all in for 3500. Everyone folds to me, and I'm most likely up against AA, KK or QQ.

Questions for you: Was the initial raise to 1K an overbet? Would 3x or 4x have kept me from being committed to the hand?Would All-in have been better a better move at this stage? Does a fold with 800 chips remaining make any sense here, if I know that I'm a 4 to 1 dog?

Comment 1: He is playing aggressive and limping a lot doesn't really make sense.

Comment 2: Is it 2nd-11th get 1k and First is the package, and what was the buy in.

Comment 3: With blinds and antes this is an insta shove, sorry if you run/ran into a bigger hand.

Just go all-in. You have less than 10 big blinds, and likely the best hand at the table.

Buy-in for the event was 220. There were 5 separate satellites played over 3 days to get into this final tournament for the seat. I had finished in the top 20 of the 5th tournament to get into this one. Chip stacks did not carry over, so we were starting with 1K, with a total of 100K in chips in play.

Prizes ranged like this:
1st - WSOP seat +20K cash
2nd - 15.5K cash
3rd - 12.5K
4th - 10K
and so on down to 1K for 11th

you cant fold after putting half your stack in

and yes this is an easy shove pre.

With not even 10BBs, I hate your raise to 1000, which is more than 1/2 of your chipstack... You really have to call here, even if I don't think button is making a move here with worse hands, prolly a coinflip.

I'm shoving this without hesitation...

Seems like a piss poor structure in this thing, starting w/ 1K chips, you just "doubled up" a little while ago, and your STILL shortstacked w/ less than 10 BB's. It is a crapshoot tournament, if you plan on winning it, you will have to gamble and win some coin flips.
