Celtics let go of Telfair

He had one more guaranteed year on his contract.

I wonder how he would have ended up had he gone to Louisville for a couple years.

Portland fans---

1. Thanks.
2. Enjoy Brandon Roy.

Everyone else--

Do you think anyone else will give him a shot? Or is he done with the NBA for good?

I think he gets a shot.

He's young and quick. Someone will give him another shot, but he is going to have build up some trust with his new team. I don't think he's bound for Europe quite yet, but he hasn't played well and developing a bad rep with the law isnt' going to help him image.

Why did the Celtics ever make this trade? Did they really think they were getting something in Telfair? Was it for the additional picks or salary cap space? I hated this deal from day one. I hope something good comes out of this so Ainge can make it look like he knew what he was doing.

You know, I don't want to make excuses for him, but he was driving in Yonkers with an expensive SUV at 21. Wouldn't you be packing?

Not done in the NBA (assuming he doesn't end up in jail). Not by a long shot. He's just too cheap at this point. Next year could very well be his last, though.

Frankly I think he's getting a bum deal with this weapons charge thing. I know he's had trouble with the law before, but I don't think it's dumb for most NBA guys to carry a piece. Pierce nearly got stabbed to death and has reported that he's been followed on his way home from games. Anyway, just a thought.. I don't want this to turn into a gun control thread.

From the Cs standpoint, if they wanted to cut ties with him, this situation brought a logical reason to.

How bad is Bassy kicking himself for passing up on Louisville? His stock drop is much, much worse than Kwame Brown's.

basically,

the contract swap was Raef Lafrentz (who had four years left) versus theo ratliff (who had two years left and is expiring at the end of next year).

if danny can turn theo's contract + young pieces into an all-star next year, i still say it's worth it.

a question i have is that i wonder if portland still would have done the deal for jarret jack, who is awesome.

What is there to make you assume that he wouldn't have gotten in trouble / had his stock drop at Louisville? If that had happened, he'd have even less money than he does now.

It's certainly not a failsafe, and you're right, he'd be a few mil poorer. He himself might not care all that much, which is fine. But a kid who's THAT dominant in HS doesn't enter college and suddenly lose it. He would've been outstanding, and he probably would've learned a thing or two about the game of basketball. Even if he didn't dominate or learn anything, he would've entered the NBA with much more realistic expectations.

not surprising at all. This kid should have gone to college, however if you watched his documentary you can see why he went pro. I was never a fan of his game, but I hope he can turn things around. He needs to get out of the hood and concentrate on ball or else he will be in Greece like his brother.
