Why do you own a gun?
 

what purpose does it have other than to potentially kill or harm someone? Please explain why you have a gun. TY.

I don't have a gun (should I be letting pvn know this? is he going to come get me now?) but if I did it would potentially kill or harm someone AND potentially deter a criminal from stealing my stuff.

Self-defense of my person and property (and family). Which includes (but is not limited to) killing or harming someone if necessary. That and target shooting is fun.

I own guns precisely because they enable me to much more easily kill someone. Having that ability is of tremendous value if someone else attempts to seriously harm or kill me. I prefer to take responsibility for my own security and safety.

I own a closetful of guns for deterence via threat to kill or harm people, and failing that, to kill or harm people.

I used to be into trap and target shooting. Haven't done it in a while, but still have the guns.

My family has 4 rifles and 3 shotguns that we use for hunting and target shooting.

I like target shooting and have been involved in a violent home invasion where my roommate was raped at gun point. That will never happen again.

I own a firearm because I am a member of a relatively advanced technological species that requires the use of violence in certain situations. It was discovered some time ago by our ancestors that biting and tearing are not the best ways to achieve this.
