Sunday Million hand. Is this a complete spew?

Im looking for feedback on this hand. I had a really really tight image at the time so i was hoping i could represent a slowplay here on the flop like a QQQ or JJJ type hand while getting a free card on a flop that could have hit my opponents range.

I don't like this at all. He's not going to give you credit for a big hand after checking this flop. Also, I think you are also committed to calling if he shoves with your 8-11 outer.

What kind of hands do you think villian is capable of laying down here?

This looks okay, but if I was going to make this semi-bluff, I'd probably just shove it in.

I like it.

Its not impossible for the hero to have checked AQ or a set on this rainbow board (most people bet a set on a 2 broadway board but not everyone). Now that a 9 or T on the river present scare cards it is possible that the hero who holds AQ/set would want to put a big bet in to protect his hand.

There is no reason to think that the BB has a big hand here. It is possible that he is completely bluffing after your flop check and it is possible that he has a hand like QT/KQ/AJ/KJ that he will not want to play for his tournament life.

The question of whether a raise to 30k or a shove is better is really a matter of personal preference. I like a shove because it will fold out 99/TT/89/JT that might call your smaller bet thinking about how they have outs. If you shoved they would just be thinking about tournament life.

You are calling a shove anyway and sometimes an all in push looks weaker than a smaller raise. I don't mind semibluffing in this spot and I think your bet sizing although debatable, and not what I would do, is fine.

in an ideal world this is good and will work, and is a strong move

in the real world this doesn't work often

Isn't this Fancy Play Syndrome? Since you have tight image, why not just C-bet? If he check-raises you are probably in trouble, but can get away cheaply. If the opponent is an aggressive player who could check-raise with air, then taking the free card is good. If you are concerned that your opponent has flopped a set, then the free card to your 4 outer is not really worth much and when he bets the turn you have no information about his hand.

A C-bet risks 5,500 to win 11k, while as played, you are risking 30k to win 20k.

It is possible that failing to make these big, high-risk moves is what's holding back my progress as an MTT player. If so, tell me now.

Checking AQ or a set is good to use vs a lot of opponents because they will never believe you when you wake up and bet 10k on turn and shove river for value.

Sure if he is gonna fold out almost all his 1 pair hands - even those with a redraw like QT, then this is a good semibluff. In that case he's only calling with QJ, sets and straights. In my experience this is not going to be the case and you will get called down lightly.

Re: Sunday Million hand. Is this a complete spew?

It is one of those spots where your hand looks really airy and if villian can hand read he should call here really wide.
I would probably call the turn is a lot of outs and potentially the best hand.
