The Ventitian now allows benjies to play in the 2/5NL?

Played at the V for the first time in about a week tonight. Evidently, the rule regarding cash playing in the 2/5NL (not sure about the 1/2)game has been changed.

The V has a $1000 cap on the 2/5.

To my knowledge this is the only house in Vegas that allows cash to play in a restricted buy-in game. Is this a positive devolopment?

It seems a matter of convenience vs. game integrity.

Sure, everybody knows that sometimes it's a pain in the arse to have to flag down a chip runner to get new money into the game. However, when there's a cap on the buy-in, allowing $100 bills to play offers a safe and easy way for a would be wrong doer to do his wrongs.

Do many places other than Vegas have situations where bills play in a restricted buy-in game? Has it led to any trouble?

Cash plays at the Caesar's 1/3NL with a $500 max. I have not heard of any 'trouble' per se, but I have seen people on at least two occasions sneak money off the table (I didn't say anything, however, because I regarded them as bad players and good for the game.)

Cash plays at Rio's NL2/5 $500 game. And at Sahara's $500 NL1/2 (and at their 2/4 game). Usually the rule is if cash plays, it's only $100's, but at Sahara I think any bills play.

Only "trouble" I've seen is when people make assumptions about how many bills folks are playing, or if someone has folded their $100's and effectively hidden 'em. And I haven't seen that happen in a coon's age.

I like bills playing because it seems to make things go a little faster. I can also just buy in for $300 or $500 without much worry about the stacks at the table I'm being sent to, and if I find $300 is the short stack I can add a few bills. It's also easy to add a bill or two after your AJs loses to Q4 after AXX flops and Q4 goes all-in for his last $81 and hits runner-runner Q4 for two pair (to pick a hand not at all at random from tonight).

Some folks hate bills playing because it's hard to tell at a glance how much someone has, so yeah, it makes it a little easier to exceed the buy-in cap just 'cause bills can be slipped in a bit less noticably than lots of chips or large denomination chips. Just haven't seen that as an issue.

$100 bills play at Bellagio 5/10 NL (1k max buyin).

I am a strange bird, as I don't like to play with bills in my stack, in fact if a win a pot with bills in it, I color them up.

As far as playing with bills, the things I have seen be a problem is it can slow down the game with the classic "AI... Dealer how much is the bet?". It is a lot faster to count chips than bills, and tends to be more accurate too. It also opens up the "I thought I calling $2500 and not $6500" issues that have been posted about recently which can be solved by "Dealer how much is the bet?" which circles right back to problem one of slowing down the game.

Hi E.W.,

I had lunch Friday at Red Rock with some poker playing friends. During lunch, 2+2er Cactus Jack told me he just had played $1-2 NL at the "V" and that $100's play now (at the "V") in the $1-2.

He also mentioned that a few nights a week, they are bringing out a carving station for the poker players (this might not be new but it is new to me).

I might give the Venetian a look this Wednesday night. I LOVE free food! YMMV.

Happy Pokering

Howard

PS,
Hope all is going well Firecracker man.

For the most part, i totally disagree with this....It's much faster to put bills in the pot and to count them. For instance putting 5 bills in the pot and fanning them out is MUCH quicker than putting 2.5 stacks of $10 chips or 5 stacks of $5 chips in the pot. Obviously, using big chips (black and purple) is the quickest method of all.

Wed. Cheap food at Binion's, then roast beef at the V. Any wonder poker players look like bowlers or walrus-mustached golfers?

I'll be checking to see what impact if any hundreds make on the 1/2 game. Probably not much. But then, I'm wondering how intimidating it is to sail a black chip or two into the air on a raise. Might scare the fish.

ps--I'm still suffering the after-effects of the RR brunch. Good eats and better conversation. (Sounds like the line from the Spearmint-Rhino spot.)

I agree that not allowing 100s in restricted buyin games is a good idea. I am never a big fan of it due to how much it slows down the game. When I go to Vegas I typically play the 5/10 NL at Bellagio and am always buying 100s off people. I typically wait until I know I can get $1000 off the table then buy them from them, toss em blacks then call a chip runner over to change them out for blacks, rince, repeat

I would not do this. When yo readh $3k in purchased chips they are supposed to start keeping paper work on your chip purchases. Some people do not like a casino keeping track of their chip purchases in the poker room.
