noob, best online brokers for Canadians

I am very new to the world of finance, I just bought my first mutual funds last month! So, like poker, this has become somewhat of an obsession with me.
I just wanted to know what the best online brokers are for Canadians. I don't want to start with a huge initial deposit, but rather start with 1K or something.
Thanks,

I think TDameritrade has lower commissions than etrade canada but im not sure. Investing $1000, commissions become pretty important

A lot of brokers won't let you open an account with only 1K.

You may want to take a look at www.tradefreedom.com

9.95$/trade, no account minimum, no transactions minimum, free level 1 quotes.

Re: noob, best online brokers for Canadians

To be honest, I will likely only make a few trades and hold them for a while. I am looking at a few particular companies to invest in.
I am a complete noob when it comes to investing, so I don't want to jump in head first. I want to start small and eventually expand my portfolio once I understand the fundamentals.
Any thoughts on where a total noob can get started? (I should probably search, huh?)
