advice that can be boiled down to one sentence
 

At work today someone was talking about the best career advice he had ever heard. It was that the best thing you can do to "get ahead" at work is do whatever you can to make your boss's job easier. I thought this was pretty good advice and it got me thinking about other examples of advice on "big" topics -- career, love, marriage -- that could be distilled into a single sentence.

Another career one I've been thinking about: don't choose a career where you have to be among the very best in order to succeed (eg., musician, athlete).

I'm sure OOT can come up with better examples than these. What's some great advice that can be boiled down to a single sentence?
