My GF wants me to pick her up (am I an ass?)
 

I have a car, my girlfriend doesn't. We live in San Francisco where lots of people take the trains and buses, which is what she mostly does. However, several times a week she'll want me to take her somewhere or pick her up from work or something. Sometimes I do it, but sometimes I just don't want to and tell her to take the bus. This usually makes her all pissy and whiny for the rest of the day. FYI picking her up isn't like trivial, the traffic in the city sucks and the parking is a nightmare, and I only have street parking at home too.

So - am I an ass, or should I keep telling her to suck it up and get herself around town?

It depends on what you're picking her up from IMO. Shopping = she takes the bus. Work/doctor/etc = pick her up.

Holy crap dude... if picking someone up is that big of a deal to you, why be in a relationship at all?

Well he's not in the relationship to be her personal driver. It isn't right for her to expect or even ask you to take her from point A to point B. Picking her up from point A to hanging out with you is a different story.

You're absolutely right, it doesn't make you someone's bitch. You do nice things for people you care about.

If driving across town once a week to pick up your gf because it makes her happy is too much to ask it's time to be real with yourself and realize you aren't that into the whole relationship to begin with.
