More Progress on WV Table Games
 

"With a passage vote all but certain today in the Senate, the last obstacle for final passage of the table games bill (HB2718) will be to work out comparatively minor differences in the House and Senate versions of the bill. Gov. Joe Manchin is expected to sign the bill."

I'm confused, has the amendment mentioned below been added?

" Another amendment, intended to make the bill more palatable to Jefferson County legislators and voters, would divide the 1 percent of the “tax” to be distributed to racetrack counties based on the percentage of revenue the local tracks produce — not by equal shares.

Dubbed the “eat what you kill” amendment by Kessler, it would direct a bigger share to Jefferson County, since its Charles Town Races and Slots accounts for nearly half of all racetrack gaming revenues.

Sen. John Yoder, R-Jefferson, said that without the change, voters in his county will not vote to approve table games at Charles Town — effectively cutting all revenue collections in half."

I believe that part got voted down by 1. I'm not sure how that will effect Charles Town.

I reread that section several times -- I think that amendment was added, but its not very clear. I hope it passes in Jefferson county -- maybe I will turn my in-law suite in a Bed and Breakfast for Poker players [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Well, reading up on the subject a little, the "eat what you kill" admendment passed. However, what Yoder said was that the voters of Jefferson county wouldn't allow table games at Charles Town if that wasn't in there. I know those of you in the DC areay are more concerned about that track.

Regardless, it is in, and I don't think a little less of the cut is going to impact the voters of the Northern Panhandle. They want this, and they want it bad.

Do you expect to see similar poker game selection that most AC or Vegas casinos offer? Or is it more likely to resemble the low stakes/high rake of the Florida 'casinos'?

My understanding is that Florida has a statutory limit of $2 on all bets, which won't be present here. But I doubt you'll have the critical mass of higher stakes players to sustain a large variety of games.

My guess is you will see a lot of 1/2 NL and 2/4 or 3/6 Limit, which come to think of it, is what "most AC or Vegas casinos offer".

The bill has passed the Senate by a vote of 20-13, and has been sent back to the House to approve the Senate's amendments or resolve the differences between the bills in some other way.
