Help Settle A Bet

Last week my friend and I got into an argument about whether Sanjaya would be eliminated on American Idol. Since I knew he wasn’t going home, I laid him odds.

Only, it turned out they were eliminating only the bottom two, not the bottom three. Our bet had been over whether Sanjaya would be in the bottom three.

The following IM conversation ensued. I highlighted the important parts.

Before announcing the final elimination, Ryan announced that one of the contestants was in the top 4, the other was going home. Sanjaya stayed; the goober standing next to him went home.

bet is with a friend.... seems like it may have been predicated on sanjaya being bottom 3... him standing at end with AJ does NOT mean he was bottom 3, unless i missed a seacrest comment.

FWIW, antonella and sanjaya seem to be their chosen ones for artificially stressful situations.

You win. They announced that he wasn't in the bottom 3. That's what you guys were betting on. If they said one of you is in the bottom 3 and the other is going home you would have lost. They made it pretty clear that he wasn't in the bottom 3.

Bet is off, as you are both morons for betting on B3 when there was no B3, and you should know this if you are going to bet on it.

It depends on the exact wording of the bet, also. If you bet on B3, there was no B3 to bet on or to judge a bet by, so there is no possible way you can settle or even have a bet on this. If you think you can, then we might as well bet on whether the unicorns or the leprechauns won the Superbowl last month.

Also, for the future, starting with T12, if you make B3 prop bets, it should be only on who is standing there for the B3. They say or imply other things sometimes, but it's often vague, and/or they may put someone B3 who's not, just for drama, without explicitly stating so. When you make a B3 wager, you are betting on who will be standing next to Ryan at the end, on the chopping block for elimination, whether they explicitly say you are in the bottom 3 of actual votes or not.

when did seacrest say that? i must have missed it, not that i watch that closely, but i don't remember that. (i remember the prior week him saying 4th place)

I think the exact wording of the bet is pretty clear in the convo. The deal is off unless they say if he was in the bottom 3 of votes or not. They said he was 4th overall therefore it was not possible for him to be in the bottom 3. OP wins the bet.

ok, thanks.... very confusing as sanjaya has been been up there at the end when most likely both weeks, he wasn't the next lowest....

sanjaya and antonella are the chosen ones, at least for cheap entertainment.

Talking about exact wording of the original bet, which we don't know. The "clarification" in the convo doesn't help.

They did not announce bottom 3, so technically by this wording, deal is off, regardless of other Seacrest verbiage.

I don't care, don't know either poster, and have no stake in this. Just my thoughts on a prop that was unclear, about an outcome that would not take place.
