Flopped straight - flush draw on board

Second orbit at table. Button is terrible and his l/r screamed big pair. Know nothing about BB. After flop I figure him for a flush draw, certainly something he likes.

I realize I didn't need to push given BB stack and I'm sure he is calling with pretty much anything. But, if his stack were closer to mine or he had me covered would it have been correct to push if I knew he had a flush draw? How about a set?

In this hand I wasn't thinking about BB stack size because I pushed thinking I would isolate button. Stack size concepts are yet another thing I need to work on and I don't pay enough attention to. Usually I only notice if they have me covered and I was thinking after this hand that I could have made a costly mistake. Not sure.

edit: I wasn't looking at preflop, I wouldn't call 6x BB if the raiser had only 17 left, only if I was sure I was getting it all in if I hit.

So what I want to know is, if Button's action screamed big pair, why are you calling his re-raise pre-flop with a marginal hand? Sure, you got a lucky flop, but otherwise, I see that move costing you in the long run.

Am I wrong?

Yes, I believe so. Paractically knowing what button is holding, I'm playing it for staight/flush/2 pair or > value and dumping if I miss. I also dump it if I hit 1 pair and face heavy action.

You're sort of wrong. It's about a 6BB call, so it's a little more than you'd like, but 67s plays just like a low pocket pair, it's a great hand to crack big pairs and take their whole stack. If there's a problem it's that BB and Button are both a bit short-stacked which hurts your implied odds.

This call is one of those implied odds dealies. Those are fun.

Yes he was. What really stunk was my 400BB stack was useless after this hand. He left and nobody had anything worth playing for.

I hear standard but does that mean pushing would have also been correct if BB's stack was bigger?

These can be great hands if you have good reads. Definitely way better with position though. And you definitely have to consider stack sizes before you start making these plays on a regular basis.
