2 Hour 6 Player Home Game Advice

Hey Everyone,

I have a bunch of college friends coming into town for the weekend. We have two hours two play a quick poker game. There will be 6 players. I'm thinking of setting the game up as a SNG with starting stacks of 1500 chips. My question is how fast should I increase the blinds to ensure we are done in around 2 hours? Is 1500 Chips a good starting amount?

This game will be a low buy-in and mostly for fun, so its not a big deal if the game eventually turns into an All-In fest. Only 2 of us player poker seriously, the rest play only a few times a year. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why not do a cash game?

15 minute blind levels as such:
25-25
25-50
50-100
150-200
200-300
300-400
400-500

It's going to be a total crap shoot, but you can't expect much else with only two hours. I'd recommend two decks so you can keep the action going.

This is similar to what I use, but not exact.
12 minute blinds.
10/20
20/40
30/60
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600
400/800
500/1000

or 15 minute blinds
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
250/500
300/600

You didn't really mean to price the SB in on every round after Round 3, did you? I'm assuming you want to use 1 chip- 2 chip blinds.

I'd go for a cash game first.

If not, then this might work for 1500 chips:

25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
200/400
300/600
20 minute levels
you only need 25 and 100 denomination chips

This may end before 2 hours. So you could alternatively use 30 minute levels for the first three and then in the last half hour increase the blinds faster.

This format sucks. 2 hours in a home game = 60 hands, tops... probably a lot less.

Just do a cash game.

6 handed with 1500 in chips at stars with 5 min blinds takes about 30 min, so i'd say 15 min and you should be fine.
