Whatis the best way for America to control the mideast\'s oil resources

Do you accept this premise:

The war in Iraq, the posture toward Iran and the Israel support are all devices of American business interests to control resources for the benefit of the American economy.

As citizens, this gives us termendous opportunities to profit and live in luxury that exceed those of citizens of lesser nations.

Now my oppinion:

So I believe commiting atrocities in foreign lands (by paying taxes) is in my best interets.

However, I believe that my interests as a citizen are not being properly served by the war in Iraq and the support for Israel.

Instead of greater economic integration between Reading, Pa and Allentown and Philadelphia via increased transportation and better jobs via economic "stimulation" (better known as socialism I believe), my money is going to inefficient policy decsions.
------
Now for you:

The Mid East oil resources have been decribed as the greatest strategic prize in history, but they are so far away.

How can the US exert greater control over these resources with the power at our disposal?

I don't accept the implied premise that it's OK to take things by force to facilitate my life of luxury. Just as I wouldn't steal, rob, murder to get what I want, nor do I approve of this being done on my behalf. I think it's quite scary that most otherwise mild-mannered people don't have a problem with this through the abstraction of democracy. In particular I am surprised at you canis, and I hope I'm being levelled. National defense is one thing, securing economic dominance on the battlefield is quite another.

Pull out all of our troops and practice free trade. Its really simple.

Your wrong. we can (and always could have) gotten all the oil and resources we need from the area by simply buying it. Supply and demand curves come together and everyone is happy EXCEPT for a small handfull of people who make enormous profits from military hardware and short scared peaks in oil prices.

Tobiny

Are you claiming we are not practicing free trade(regarding oil)? If so I'd like to know how you come to that conclusion.

Like this...

EEStor's new automotive power source could eliminate the need for the combustion engine - and for oil.

That's an energy storage device, like a battery, used to power an electric car. You still need a power source to charge the device.

Our involvement in the poltics in the region prevents it from being considered free trade. From the CIA involvment with the Shah of Iran to supporting both sides of the Iran/Iraq conflict to the stationing of troops in Saudi Arabia (just a few examples) we (the US) are continually altering who is in charge of the oil, who has needs, what those needs are and how often and how much the supply is altered. Our involvement in the Mideast is not at all free market.

We are paying far more than market price, just look at your paycheck. You may pay (non free) market prices at the pump but you also have this big as surcharge every year when you do your taxes. The CIA plots, the gulf wars the support of Isreal, none of this stuff is free.
