Goals & Objectives of a New Poker Lobbying Organization
 

We need to proceed deliberately and first agree on goals, before trying to decide on an organizational structure and name for same. So let me kick things off. We need to discuss this *fully* for a couple weeks to allow occasional posters to chime in, and come to a consensus, before proceeding further.

I suggest the following to start the goals discussion:

1) Goals

-a) Wider legalization of poker rooms in B&M venues in the various states

-b) Legalization both on a state and national level of online poker

-c) Only incidentally supporting legalization of other forms of gambling including sportsbetting



2) Structure

-a) A PAC to raise donations and lobby for our interests, primarily on a national level

-b) An affiliated organization that provides media publicity for our cause and maintains something like the wiki I suggested on a website where any state organization or friendly legislator can quickly find all relevant information on the topic

I can only stop and wonder at how this forum ONLY gets traffic during a near tragic, or already tragic event happening. All you geniuses should have been focusing on these matters prior. We should stop pretending to care, and do what our previous actions in matters like these say we should do. Nothing.

GTF out of here. Many of us including myself have been here from the beginning of this forum, which was over 6 months before the legislation passed. So either contribute or just STFU.

I'm not talking about you specifically. I have checked legislation daily since Sept. Since about late October, the only thread I see updating is the Network Tracking thread. This forum has been a barren wasteland until now, and it's [censored] annoying. Not saying that's your fault either. It's just the same song and dance everytime.

question Bluff -

Does supporting LIVE poker at the B&M level, will that help or hurt?? Will the casinos ally, or hinder.

Sportsbook betting online is what the feds are going after,do we really want to include this?

That's only true for the ones already existing. And except for Cali and Wash, it's mainly tied to casinos. Poker in general has always been under attack, and part of helping the online venues is spreading correct information about poker and poker players who exist in the B&M world. If poker were more widely legal in the states, online would be in *much* better shape and under less attacks.

Also it's kind of like the business principle of economy of scale. Once you have an organization to provide info on poker and lobby for online or B&M legalization, you have already paid much of the overhead to promote the other. They will cross-feed each other.

I will resist the opportunity to reply to Chex.

Bluff, I agree that we should be fighting to legalize poker in all venues, state and federal, online and brick and mortar. And having multiple goals does not necessarily mean that we can't place a priority on one, such as internet poker.

For example, perhaps the organization can be broad enough to support a general legalization of poker, with sub-groups designated to focus on (1) online; (2) brick and mortar. And people can join whatever subgroup is of particular interest.

WHether or not the groups are organized together or separately, I have no doubt that there is a need for pushing for legalization on all fronts.
