Best way to rebuild a bankroll?

Hello all,

I used to play 4 years ago, lost my cool due to a string of bad beats, and eventually started playing stakes that my bankroll could not endure on tilt. Didn't end up well

Was hoping to find some sound advice from players that have been down that street. My options are Online of course(low stakes STTs?) or the local charity casinos. Only problem is they're 1/2 PL which complicates things a bit since I don't know what I'm doing in PL but the level of play there(or lack thereof) makes it tempting.

Thoughts?

Learn how to play pl and play both. The best way to become good at poker is to be versatile. Being good at poker means making money at it. The people who make the most money are the ones who are good at it. Since you've gone busto once already, you're probably better off starting online. Online you can start with a smaller bankroll so therefore you'll be taking a smaller initial risk. Lower risk means you'll be better able to make good decisions at the table. Use the lower levels to practice good management. Afterall you've got to be in the games to win.

small stakes cash games. play well, and play within your bankroll (20 buyins for next level before moving up, drop back if you don't win).

bad beats are good. do you see why?

A job.

I went busto last month playing with ppl that were way better than me.

A job is the fasted way to rebuild a bankroll.

Save up some money until you have 300 bb's for the level you want to play. I've read lots of great stories about people who turn $20 into a bankroll or whatever, starting at .05-.10 or something. Good for them, I can't do it. Playing the micros makes me want to kill myself after about 30 minutes.

I presume you have a job, so saving/building a bankroll shouldn't be too much of a concern right away. The guys who are saying "make sure you have X times the blind/buy in" are getting ahead of where you are at, imo. Play at a level that is
1) Not high enough to cause you serious financial distress
2) High enough to keep your attention

note that #1 is MUCH more important than #2! Keep good records of your sessions. If you are coming out ahead you can start looking at it as a money-making endeavor. Keep playing at the same level until you have enough in your 'roll to start employing the sound money management already suggested in this forum.

If you are coming out behind, you need to look at poker as a form of entertainment and make sure you are getting your money's worth. If not, move down (home games are the best way) or quit.
