Post Sites You\'ve Made and How You\'ve Made Them!

See the content above.

Put in a description of the site and what tools you used to create the design, backbone, content, etc!

My first site. I got a sweet design from oswd.com, but it was very difficult to update and customize. I recently transformed the site to a wordpress blog and added a cool template. I still need to re-upload all my Natalie Gulbis pic. This site gets good traffic, but the sports ads do NOT pay well and tend to have a low CTR. This #11 on google for the term Natalie Gulbis, but I haven't managed to crack the first page yet.

This is my second site... I downloaded a template from oswd.com and added the content. The site is straight HTML/CSS. I made up a few of the reviews and some were submitted by users to me. I started this one up back in May and traffic has increased every single month. I'm expecting to get around 1500 unique visitors this month. This site is my bread and butter (if you can call $3 per day, butter). My ads usually pay reasonably well, but not incredible, but the site itself has a very high CTR, (~8%).

http://www.gnarlsbarkleyfans.com I just recently added this one. It's also a wordpress blog. No ads yet, but it's getting good traffic. Slowly it's working its way up in google, but it's tough since there's been a lot of press / news about Gnarls on the internet. I will probably ad ads soon.

http://www.richfromyourhome.com This site has a good CTR, but doesn't get a whole lot of traffic. It's tough to come up with original material and I'm busy and lazy... But, it makes a little bit. This one is also a wordpress blog.

Since April, I've made about $400 from google. Not incredible, but I'll take it.

Wow, nice sites Frickenstein. Right now I am trying to make a blog with Drupal (drupal.org) as a Content Management System. I heard Drupal is powerful, but it does have a rather steep learning curve. So far I have made the following sites:

danielpoker.com - Put up my crappy guide to online poker recently. I edited a template from OSWD. I made the logo in Photoshop by rendering (cutting an image out of a background) a card design from clipart, adding text, and changing background colour. I wrote the content myself; I was going to write some beginner's strategy articles but I never got around to it, and added affiliate links (Adsense not allowed on gambling websites). The website is only about a month old, about 3-4 unique visitors per day (mostly from directories I submitted to), no revenue.

Steakinfo.com- I modified the same template I had used for danielpoker.com. I made the header banner in Photoshop using two stock photos from PDPhoto.org (great site, public domain photos), and skills I had learned from reading signature-making tutorials. I wrote the content and added Adsense ads. I used Simple Machines Forum as free forum software. I made a few posts, and paid my sister and some users from forums.digitalpoint.com (webmastering/ad revenue forum, very good information and buy/sell domains/sites/services forum) .10/post to get the forum started. This website is only about 2 weeks old revenue so far is $0.28.

I'm fairly new to designing websites, but I'm learning a lot and I find it a lot of fun.

My own little SSNL site that I set up in December. Haven't really done anything with it and it hasn't generated any income yet. I bought the template from 4Templates.com and have been using Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 to make it, teaching myself how to do it as I go.

Frink, You mean oswd.org, right?

Also, I notice that on one site you are using SMF and on the others phpbb for your forums, any reason for not choosing one? (and, why aren't you clearing out the spam?)

Donkit.com - Poker video site. Used X-cart as the shopping system (a bit modified though). Layout was done, first in Photoshop, and then converted to work with the templates (done by my partner).
Using PayPal and Google Checkout for payments and BlueHost for hosting.

businessandpoker.com - My own personal blog done with Wordpress, some plugins, and a modified Vistered Little 1.6 theme.

These are the sites that actually do something or might do something in the near future.

http://www.smartcapper.com - Created from scratch with perl and data storage in MySQL. A lot has gone into the site, but I'm likely to change this to be Wordpress based in the future. This means a lot of rewriting, so it's not likely to happen soon.

http://www.smartsportshandicappingforum.com - This site really only gets traffic from spammers, so no one can actually get an account right now. It's based on PHPBB, so it makes it really easy for spammers. Going to try and find a better solution in the future if I decide to actually continue with it.

http://trackmyhands.com - Poker software/tools/info site. Also allows users to signup for a blog. All based on the Wordpress-MU platform. I'm going to need to upgrade this, but right now I'm working on probability theory so I can make some more tools.

http://www.whichteamwins.com - This too is wordpress based, and I'm working on some sports team / player analysis tools to give it some meat / worthwhile on the 'net. Still in the fairly early stages of development.

http://www.probabilitycalculators.com - Another wordpress based site, and very little has been done so far. Kinda like http://trackmyhands.com I'm getting my ducks in a row to add some useful tools.

http://www.ieatn00bs4breakfast.com - My video game blog. Obviously, again, wordpress based.

As much as I like doing things from the ground up, I've come to enjoy the versatility that Wordpress provides.

Yes, oswd.org. My mistake.

No, I didn't choose one over the other for any particular reason. Just figured I'd try a different one out. They're both free.

I should be clearing out the spam, but I've been lazy! I might delete the forums, and try again with them at a later date.

Is there any specific reason why you think phpbb is more susceptible to spamming than any other Forum software?
