OT: E Channel - Online Nightmares

Has anyone got a chance to view this show? one segment was about online poker. They talked to 3 different people who got "addicted" to online poker. One was a college girl who made her first $20 deposit and turned it into $50.... then she was hooked. the other was a housewife who kept losing and forged checks/borrowed money to feed her addiction, then she claimed that online poker sites withdrew all the money from her bank accounts without her knowing. She was quoted as saying "online gambling is the heroin of the twenty first century". The last story was some redhead college kid from PA who saw his friends online poker account with 120k in it so figured he could do it. After being 7k in the whole he robbed a bank and is still in jail today.

I know everyones different but I dont see how poker could be addicting, I love the game and all but if I wasnt winning I think It would be INCREDIBLY easy to find some other hobby to hold my interest.

If you havnt seen this yet set your tivo's for E Investigates Online Nightmares you will definitly get a laugh out of these 3 fishies stories. The rest of the show was pretty sad though.

saying that you dont comprehend how people can get addicted to gambling makes you sound like your from another world.

lolol

i think its harder to realize you are "addicted" if you are a winning player, and if you are "addicted" its not even close to as big of a problem, if a problem at all

If you start becoming anti-social or neglect your other responsibilities it could become a very real and big problem

I am a winning player, but I feel I have an unhealthy addiction.

Some people just have addictive personalities. And if something gives them a high, they can find it hard to let go of.

I know they haven't definitively proven its a chemical-based problem, but addictive-behavior sure looks like a chemical imbalance on more than a couple of levels.

yes, it clearly can become a problem,
my point was its probably easier to spot it if you are losing money.
clearly if you are neglecting other responsibilites or being antisocial it is a problem
