I heard a news reporter honestly ask

"So, with the charges being reduced from rape to sexual assault/kidnapping, does this in any way make the prosecution's case easier? because the burden of proof for those crimes is less than that of rape?"

This whole thing is a joke. It's a witch hunt to defame these three college students.

The only prosecuting witness has proven to be unreliable and inconsistent through this entire case. She's a lowlife scumbag and her lawyer is just as worse.

The guy withheld evidence from the defense and he can be sued for legal malpractice due to that unethical practice.

Common sense dictated this outcome from the very beginning. I don't believe that I have read/heard a single legal expert call this a solid case at any point. It was only a matter of time. It's only a matter of time before Nifong drops the other charges as well. I expect this to happen shortly.
