Tipping for departing service people?

Our town is switching over trash haulers.

As a second question, does your answer change if you've also tipped them during the summer? (During a real brutal stretch of hot weather, we had a cleanout pile of trash. I took some money from one of my few 2006 winning nights and tipped them as Christmas in July).
