Poker rooms on cruises
 

Has anybody ever played poker on a poker cruise or just a regular cruise ship that has a casino? I'm wondering what the games are like. I'd imagine they would be pretty good. Some poker cruises claim to have limits up to 30/60 with NL games too. I don't know what kind of games there are on typical cruise ships.

I was on a poker Cruise in November. I was very surprised to find two things.

1) The games were pretty small. $2-$4 was very popular, $4-$8 was the largest limit game that was regularly spread ($10-$20 might have been spread for a short time one evening). We consistently had a $2-$5 NL game ($500) max, and the staff told me that this was the first cruise they did where the players wanted $2-$5 (basically they were spreading whatever the players wanted to play). On occasion a $5-$10 or $10-$25 NL game went for short periods of time. We also had a $4-$8 Omaha H/L game going pretty regularly and once a stud game broke out but didn't last very long.
This Cruise departed from Los Angeles and I really thought there would be more mid limit games.


2) Most of the players who were there were not particulaly experienced or good. I was surprised that many of the people on this poker cruise were not familiar with basic live game rules such as string bets. There were a few people who were solid players, but most were not very good.

Regular cruise:
Norwegian - 2 years ago Totally clueless dealers and floor. 5/10 LHE was the only game they spread when they could get enough players. Level of play was sub micro limits. It was fun to play in a tux though. Very Bondish. [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img]
RCarribean - 1 year, see above
Costa - 9mths ago 7CS if they could get a game going. Which they couldn't. Shoot, they wouldn't even spread craps. Ugh! What a pathetic excuse for a cruise line.

I have only been on a regular cruise with NCL in February. They spread one table of 3/6 limit with a 10% rake up to $5. Very bad play all around.

They also had daily 20 person tournaments. ~$50+15 and you received 20 chips. Yes, that's right 20. Starting blinds were 1/2.

The Pokerroom was operated by Classic Gaming Cruises, the cruiseline was Norwegian Cruise Lines.

It was my first cruise and I had a great time. Will definately do it again.

Been on two regular Carnival cruises. Both had poker, $5/$10 limit, 10% rake up to $5. Really bad players, +EV despite the rake.

Sounds like if I want to play 10/20 or higher i'd have to go on a poker cruise. I emailed some boats to get more info so we'll see.
