No Presidency for Frist

I didn't see this posted, but noticed it on Yahoo. After all that, he doesn't even run. I heard the Christian Coalition's president elect stepped down too.

Maybe they'll legalize online gambling next week

Didn't know why I didn't check the Politics forum first. Mods feel free to move. I personally never go to the Politics forum cause that stuff's for the devil.... It did give me a warm fuzzy seeing this story. Hopefully he won't have much of a career after this. He could always move to Utah. I heard that mormon guy got arrested. Maybe they're looking for some leadership

Re: No Presidency for Frist

Don't know how I missed this :

"For more than a year, Frist has been under investigation by the SEC regarding allegations of insider trading. He has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, although he has not gained the quick resolution of the issue that he had hoped for."

Maybe he'll get lucky and have the same experience Martha had. Then someone can slip something in HIS backdoor.

or this: (and this guy quotes from the Bible and legilates morality. what a fraud.)

Frist also failed to publicly disclose his role in two family charitable foundations. Questions have arisen regarding his role on the board of a third charitable foundation that paid consulting fees to members of his political inner circle.

In August, The Associated Press reported that Frist did not complete the 40 hours of continuing medical education every two years needed to keep his state medical license active, although he submitted paperwork to Tennessee officials indicating that he had.

Re: No Presidency for Frist

Folks, don't be alarmed at what I'm about to tell you. I don't know how true it is, but I found it interesting. It basically goes like this.

In prenegotiations of a possible takeover price, the equity value of the brand name Harrahs for online gambling was brought up for possible value in the future. It was diminished by the fact that it is presently illegal in the US and other sites had huge leads that would be nearly impossible to quickly compete with.

The WSOP brand name was thought to have high value for an internet poker room however again because of the illegalities, it was not given proper value in Harrahs point of view. Supposedly the two parties were hundreds of millions off in how to value it properly.

Harrahs deplored to politicians they contributed money to in campaign contributions to even the playing field to make it fair for the honest gambling companies.

In response, the politicians decided to try to wipe the slate clean before the future legalisation and regulation of the online gambling industry that will be wide open for US gambling corporations within five years as most believe.

After the action taken late this year, Harrahs was able to revalue it's WSOP poker brand for internet poker, as well as up valuing the entire Harrahs brand name for various casino gambling. It amounted to and extra 800 million in the value of a possible takeover price.

The interested parties who hope to do a leveraged buyout of Harrahs in the near future feel online gambling is one of the top areas for future growth, and the Harrahs and WSOP brand names will dominate that market.

If this is true in any way, it gives new light to how things work in DC. The players who were hurt in making their living playing poker were nothing but pawns in this battle.

I'm sure none of this is true though. It was just a coincidence that Frist listed Harrahs as one of his campaign contributors. It's just a coincidence that he went into a frenzy as the final seconds ticked away from his political power to get the anti gambling bill passed before he left office. It became his only goal in his last minutes as a powerful Senator. It was the driving force behind all his actions in his waning moments on capitol hill.

Of course I'm sure this is normal policy for a powerful Senator in his last moments before retiring from politics forever, as it now seems. Of course their were no other motives for him except he wanted to safeguard Americans morality from the evil injustices of internet gambling.

Of course the fact that he courted money from gambling interests has nothing to do with anything, a mere coincidence and one I'm sure he wasn't even aware of.

None of this is probably true. We live in a Democracy afterall. Politicians and Corporations would never conspire like this to make an extra billion or two. Why would they?

I'd like to say in parting, thankyou Senator Frist for standing up for all of us and making decisions for us that we never would have. You are the great protector of our morals and we need more politicians like you willing to spend your last seconds in power to guarantee our moral safety.

Re: No Presidency for Frist

Bleh, the simplest answer is usually the right one.

Frist really did want to be President. But the religious right is moving out of favor and he was a long shot to begin with. Leach could have been a big asset to winning Iowa. After the elections Frist realizes he has no shot. That is about it.

Harrah's likes internet gambling because it gets people interested in Vegas etc. On the other hand Party Poker at its peak was acheiving 50 percent of Harrah's profits without any of the huge infastructure etc. So, yeah getting internet gambling legalized would be huge for the company. Im sure it would be worth at minimum a 25 percent increase in their market cap.

its kind of jumbled and i got to run. but yes harrah's would want internet gambling legalized and yes they could probably seen the hidden benefits of the bill. but i doubt it was a grand conspriracy. Frist's actions were just those of a man desperately trying to gain some traction for the presidency in my opinion.

Re: No Presidency for Frist

Jose is probably right.

Frist never had a shot at becoming President, but that does not mean he wasn't hit with the fever.

The WSOP Brand name puffery will only last until the WSOP 2007 draws around 2,500 entries. Can't run a car without the engine. Likely a deal will happen sooner however, and different Bozos will be driving that Bus.

God TOLD Frist this is not his season, so Frist quit politics.

"In the Bible, God tells us for everything there is a season, and for me, for now, this season of being an elected official has come to a close," said the Tennessee Republican, a surgeon before he entered politics in 1994."

I imagine it went something like this:

God: "You know, Bob or Bill or whatever your first name is, I really did not appreciate your continually invoking My Name to advance your own personal political ambitions. I think it would be a REAL GOOD IDEA for you to stop that, now."

Frist : "Uh, okay. I think I'll return to my professional roots as a healer and to refocus my creative energies on innovative solutions to seemingly insurmountable challenges Americans face, many of which I created along with my political allies. "

God: "Whatever, Bob. Just mind your own business for a change, okay? Remember, I've always got a warm spot reserved for you, how warm depends on you."
