Sweaty hands + Wii remote

I'm sure most of you have heard about the broken tv's thanks to the Wii remote's strap breaking. Here is a video of the strap breaking when the guy has it slip from his hands.

Sure the easy response is "wtf why is he swinging so hard?", but I think this is something common. When ppl get in the heat of the game, or get together with buddies and beer, things like this are bound to happen, and isn't this what the wrist strap is for...to prevent flying remotes?

I've played wii tennis an awful lot, and the wiimote has never even come close to slipping out of my hand. I thought the strap was to keep it from falling on the floor if it slips out of my hand in some weird way, not to insure my tv from it flying out of my hand when hitting a forehand. Damn.

Re: Sweaty hands + Wii remote

A friend broke the strap on one of my controllers. We were playing a disc golf game in monkey ball and he was trying to drive a little too hard apparently. In the game you have to push the 'A' button then do a back-handed frisbie throw motion and let go of 'A' when you want to release the disc, so when you lift your thumb off the controller, that takes away a lot of your ability to hold it (opposable thumb ftw) plus maybe if you thow a disc often and you get into the game you automatically want to let go of 'the disc' at the end of the natural throwing motion the wii has you doing.

So the remote flew out of his hand, snapped the strap and flew into the wall. Luckily it only hit the wall and the controller still works, seemingly undamaged.
