How many FPPs on 1/2 SH compared to 2/4 SH on Pokerstars
 

Hi,
at the moment I'm trying to clear a flat tv on pokerstars. So I have to get a lot of FPPs. Do I get more points on 1/2 SH or on 2/4 SH?

this may be a trick question/answer, but wouldn't it clear more quickly at 2/4 since the pots are bigger/raked more often? i don't play at stars often however.

Shouldn't be that hard to figure out....

First Frequent Player Point (FPP) is awarded for playing a hand in which the rake reaches:

$0.40 for fixed limit poker games with stakes $1/$2 and lower
$0.40 for NL/PL poker games with blinds $1/$2 and lower
$1.00 for all other games


At $1/2, $.50 is raked from a $10 pot.
At $2/4, $1.00 is raked when pot reaches $20.

Thus in both cases it requires a 5BB pot to generate 1FPP. Assuming both levels play somewhat similar, the rate should be about the same.

Rake is taken when a pot is bigger than 10$ on 1/2 SH and when the pot is bigger than 20$ on 2/4 SH. So both need a 5-BB pot for a raked hand. The only thing is that you get twice fpps for a hand with a pot bigger than 40$. This is a positive aspect for 2/4 SH. But on 1/2 SH I can play at 6 tables and on 2/4 SH only at (4)-5 tables. So it should be quite closed...

I'm assuming he's referring to limit.

1/2 and lower gets an FPP at $0.40 rake.
2/4 and higher gets an FPP at $1 rake.


For 1/2 limit it requires an $8 pot which is 4BB's.
For 2/4 limit it requires a $20 pot which is 5BB's.


So it would indeed appear that points would actually accumulate faster at 1/2 than at 2/4.

However, you get double-points on 6-max if the pot reaches $40 which is obviously more likely to happen on a 2/4 table.

My hunch is that point-accumulation is still faster on a 1/2 table but it's probably pretty close.
I haven't looked at actual numbers.

but even if you played just 100 hands of each...which would not take long at all...you could then look at the numbers and make a fairly decent determination as to how many points you are getting.
Adjust this approximation if your 100 hands just happen to come on a particularly insane table.

At 1/2, pots lower than these 5BB are actually raked to, 25c @ $5 i think, at 2/4 pots are raked only if they reach 5BB, so 2/4 is maybe better when it comes to paid rake or winrate

yes, you're right.

It's an $8 pot for .5/1.

but they do start raking in quarters at 1/2 so it does need to be a $10 pot.


And you definitely come out better rake-back wise at 2/4 because of all the $0.25 raked-hands at 1/2 that earn 0 FPP's.

You will probably have more hands go over 5BB's at 1/2 than at 2/4.
But you will also get more of the double-points hands for a $40 pot at 2/4 so because of those hands I suspect that makes up for perhaps slightly tighter play at the higher limit and you will still be earning FPP's a bit faster up there.

Tack on the fact that ANY raked hand at 2/4 earns an FPP...whereas you will be paying a good deal of rake that earns no FPP's at 1/2...and it's pretty clear that 2/4 is the better deal.
