Moving Day...I will not pay $3/box....Cheaper???

So I'm moving tomorrow near the Fenway area in Boston...its only about a mile or two from where I live now so I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible. I'm just looking for some ideas on where to get boxes cheaply..or even for free. I called the local grocery stores and they said that they crush theirs early in the morning after the shipments come in.

I went to the UPS Store, Staples and a few hardware stores and can't find anything for under $3-6 a box. I refuse to pay this much for cardboard. Since it's such a short move, I don't even really need good quality boxes, just a container to hold my stuff. I'm looking for around 10-20 boxes...

Any ideas?

Try:
http://hwcpackaging.com/packaging.htm (they are in Braintree).

or here:

http://www.boxxpress.com/index.jsp (Somerville)

What you want overall (if you are buying instead of begging) are packing supply places and not mini stores / office supply stores.

Just go to the Shaw's on Comm Ave. or the Stop & Shop in Brighton and go to back and when you see the people coming in and out of the grocery/dairy section ask them for a bunch of boxes.

When i worked at S&S in HS, people did this all the time and we gave them our old banana boxes, etc. We just throw em in the compactor anyways.

PS- I think I know you, do you live with people named Leland and Sam?

Go to a local office building. Ask any receptionist for any and all boxes that the printer paper comes in.
Find maintenance people in same building, ask for anything they got.

All you need is 5 or 6 good hits, probably take you an hour or 2.

if you go to grocery stores or retail stores( wal-mart) at night when they are stocking shelves, the stores will give you the boxes that they dont use.

If Leland's name is Corey and Sam's name is Pat...then yes.

Noah and all....thanks a lot. I'm off to find boxes.

I was just assuming Sam Snead is your real name. There is another Sam Snead that lives in Boston and plays poker. Bizarro world.

Find a Borders or Barnes and Noble near you. Book boxes are strong as hell and they usually just pile them up outside the store. Free is good.

Liquor stores often have good boxes too.
