Making the Switch
 

Hello All-

Having just graduated from school, I am have been forced to move to Columbus, Ohio for a year. Thus, I will not have a B & M location to play stud at anymore. As a result, it is time for me to sack up and finally play online for real amounts of money.

Normally, I have put in about 20 hrs/week live play at $10-$20 and $20-$40 at Foxwoods and have done extremely well.

I am hoping to start off playing $5-$10 online and I have a few questions.

1.) What is the best site to play $5-$10 at- I generally prefer a small ante and bring in, and a full 8 handed game?

2.) What are the main adjustments I have to make coming from a live play background to an online background?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated,

1) Full Tilt or Stars.

2) I don't play live, so I'm sure someone else will be able to answer more. But be sure to get rakeback for Full Tilt, and with online you have the ability to multi-table.

1. Take your pick. Stars probably has more tables & players at that level.

2. I also came from live play to online play (do both now...), so I can relate. The first thing that springs to mind is be prepared for suckouts. I know there are bad beats in live play too but online players seem more willing to chase long shots because you aren't staring at them from across the table. It can be a good thing that they play this way but it can be really baaad too.

As for multi-tabling..One question...Do you multi-table in live play? Then I wouldn't do it at higher limits online either. Just my opinion...

I wouldnt consider Full Tilt to have a small ante, its $1 for the 5/10 table which is considerably higher than Foxwoods $ .50. I remember playing at Ultimatebet a while back, and I believe their structure had a small BI and Ante. There wasnt a lot of action 6 months ago, but since we are shut out of a lot of places I am hoping some action goes there. I am going to re-deposit in a week or so and check it out again.

I have played a little live at Foxwoods in the 5/10 and 10/20 game. I just remember feeling like I was at my grandmothers kitchen table with a bunch of old timers. I wasnt aggressive at all and always felt bad when I would chek raise my draws, or slow play trips. It felt like a home game and I was just some young kid stopping in to play. Online I am way more aggressive, going after free cards, raising when I know Im behind to force others behind me out. Never did that live. You are obviously gonna see way more hands online, so a cold deck can have a big impact in a short amount of time. Just start slow and small and build a nice BR.

I disagree. Even if your per table win rate goes down, you should be able to play two tables with an increased overall BB/100 as long as you don't overlap tables too much. More than 2 and I think you are asking for trouble, but there just are not a ton of times when you are having to make decisions in both games at the same time. Also playing 2 tables helps me play tighter because I am not looking for reasons to play weak hands out of position out of boredom. One table + fantasy football reading + porn also does the same trick [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I would also buy PT. I think it is worth the $55 bucks to track your stats and find areas to improve.

If your looking at this solely as a "win rate" tool, then I guess 2 would be OK. But I'm looking at this as I can only really & truly play one table at a time. Meaning getting reads, keeping up with outs & dead cards, etc.

Let me ask you this...Would you multi table if you were sitting in a higher limit game (10/20 in this case) with a table of very solid players that knew you were multi tabling & used that against you? They're liable to rip your arms off & beat you with them. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Actually, winrate, in terms of BB/100, should go down when you multi-table. But this is compensated for by the fact that winrate, in terms of BB/hr, goes up.

all of you who think you cant play several tables of stud are nuts.

if you can play 8 tables of limit holdem.. you can play more than one table of the slowest game ever.

Personal preference I guess. My whole point was if you try to multi-table then you relegate yourself to playing your cards & your cards only...at least to some degree.

What happens when you get the tables confused & bet into a rock when you think you're betting into a fish? I know someone who pushed all in like that at a NLHE game. It wasn't purty!!!

I can play two tables of low limit stud at once, but prefer to play one table of stud and one nlhe table or sitngo.
