Outlook problems

Windows XP on a Dell Desktop.

I accidentally sent a huge email (large attachment) through Outlook. I meant to send the zipped folder of the same files, but I misclicked, and once I started sending it, I couldn't end the transaction.

So it froze up after a while and shut itself down. I rebooted and fired up Outlook again, but it got stuck trying to send the same email which was still in the Outbox. I tried to delete the email from the Outbox but it wouldn't do it because it was in the process of sending.

Now Outlook won't open at all. I went into Add/Remove programs and selected Repair Microsoft Office. It "repaired" it (or so they said), but that didn't help. I still can't open Outlook anymore.

Any ideas?

Here is something to try...

In control panel you should have a mail option. This is where you setup outlook profiles. Create a new profile and see if outlook runs. If it does, you should be able to open the .PST folder of the old profile and hopefully delete the item from the outbox. Then switch back to your original profile.

There's also a possibility you corrupted or hosed your pst file, but I've never encountered that myself.

Try some of the PST repair suggestions here.

If that doesn't work you really may have to create a new one. Any chance of a backup?

Re: Outlook problems

Unplug network cable, reboot, launch Outlook, delete mail from Outbox, reconnect network cable, reboot, profit.

It seems like we have someone at my office do this every week. The pst repair tools are decent. We just let Outlook load and then go in delete the file. You may can try booting Oulook in safe mode as well.
