And now... the mother in law...
 

My mother in law has left her boyfriend of seven years in Idaho, and come to live with us. She's expected to stay with us until early to mid-January, where she will then move in to the condo that my sister-in-law owns when their tenant moves out.

This is week one, and aside from all of her stuff suddenly being in my house, this is the good times. Yesterday she vacuumed, did all the laundry, and had dinner ready when we got home.

But come now, we all know this won't last. Who's had their mother-in-law stay with them for an extended time frame, and what secrets do you have for dealing with extended visits?

Don't get me wrong, I actually get along with my mother-in-law. I have no issues with her. I just know that the lack of privacy is going to get to me. Also, its hard enough to get sexy sexy time with a 3 and 4 year old. Throw a mother in law in the mix and if I get any more often than once a month for the next two months and I may be estatic...

Advice? Stories? Should I SCKM?

Damn, I feel for you. She's going to start moving your stuff around to "better" spots, without telling you, etc.

Throwing stuff away that she "thinks" is broken or useless. Stuff you don't want thrown away. lol.

This is a bonus I forgot to mention. Free babysitting is fantastico. Alas, I am reasonably certain we will have a romantic date, get home, and my wife will then spend 30 minutes chatting with her mom while I wonder why I bothered going through the effort of the romantic date...

Yea. If your wife is like mine, she will feel weird about having sex with her mother 20 feet away so once or twice in the next two months sounds about right.

I get along well with my mother-in-law and when she visits I always try to talk with her one on one for 5 minutes a day to make sure she is happy with everything. If she wants to move a few things around I let her (I just move them back when she leaves).

She will probably focuses most of her attention on your child(ren). I could see issues if you were still horny newly weds.

Ill bet she keeps it up, with old ladies usually, they are either horrible, or cool, so far she seems cool, and will probably not deviate.

She is cool, but she's not that old. My wife is 7 years younger than I am. I think she's 51. I expect it to taper off for the obvious reasons that she is not moving in to make us her life. We're a very temporary solution while she gets back on her feet. She's already job hunting, and soon she'll have a part time job to start saving money, and she'll start "settling in" to be being in Arizona; meet friends, have her own life a bit, etc.
