I’ll be thirty years old in a few months and it’s looking like I’ll be a lot of things that I never thought I’d be. So to continue with the new Pills, Spills, and Bellyachin’ theme of OOT…

At 30, I never thought I’d be:

Divorced
Still Smoking Cigarettes
Not Writing
Drinking heavily
Still playing Rock and Roll
Living in the Suburbs
Not living in Washington DC
Working in an Office
Gambling
Childless

HOWEVER: the jury is still out about whether I’m disappointed or not. The 14 year old me would be bummed, but f—k him, he’s an idiot. Here’s a list of things I thought I be at 30 that I am not:

Fat
Dead
Still playing D&D in my mother’s basement
Still living in my mother’s basement
Singing passionately in a Hard Rock band
The possessor of long flowing metal locks
Broke
The father of several spoiled children
Driving a 1974 Dodge Camper van
Writing for Rolling Stone magazine (yuck!)

All in all, a mixed bag. A push: I never thought I’d be boring…

At 30 I actually was:
Broke
Father of a middle schooler
Single
Just getting around to finishing college
Worldly

On the plus side, I was dating a smokin' hot Asian chick with a doctorate. Pretty sure I didn't see that coming.

a home owner (or bank servant, however you prefer to frame it)
married
good at poker
done playing poker
even more disagreeable than I already am
relaxed
5 years closer to death

I hope this thread alleviates my quarter life crisis instead of accentuating it. Things could go either way at this point.

Sat Night I was shooting pool with this women and she mentioned several times how that she was really old to be in school.

Me: "You should really stop calling yourself old."

"I bet you don't know how old I am"

"I'd rather not guess"

"I really want you to"

"Okay, you're 34."

"Yup, almost 35. Were you guessing high?"

"No"
