Idiocracy

So, I see that there's a new movie out written and directed by Mike Judge. It stars Luke Wilson, Maya Rudolph, and Dax Shepard. Quick synopsis from IMDB: "Private Joe Bowers, the definition of "average American", is selected by the Pentagon to be the guinea pig for a top-secret hibernation program. Forgotten, he awakes 500 years in the future. He discovers a society so incredibly dumbed-down that he's easily the most intelligent person alive."

So, I'm thinking this movie has a lot of potential. Having heard nothing else about it, I went to see it tonight. It is an enormous pile of steaming dogcrap. It's just terrible, seriously. I think that because of "Office Space" I expected some subtlety, but this movie hits everything within range with a sledgehammer. A big, stupid, unfunny sledgehammer.

I had the same expectations as you. I have this pet theory that with all our social safe guards we are actualy devolving, so the movie would seem to have some potential.

I've heard so many bad reviews of the movie, I doubt I'll see until it hits HBO.

Office Space made no money and was crapped on when it was first released, too. Any chace this thing gets better with repeated viewings?

No, unless the repeated viewings were forced and were only going to be stopped once the viewer said "yeah, that was OK".

Every joke was obvious and completely over-the-top. The nearest comparison movie-wise I can come up with is BASEketball, another sucky movie made by people that I think are hilarious.

I actually found this to be hilarious. Some of it was just plain stupid, but considering the subject matter, thats to be expected. Its basically Luke Wilson and 50 Billion Beavis'. There some off the wall hilarious moments for sure tho. If you liked Office Space, it definitely has the same type of humor and bite to it.

I'm probably identifying myself as a stupid [censored], but I thought BASEketball was a good movie.

I thought this was going to be a thread about the Bush administration.
