Casino AZ TODAY

Everyone- I just found out the hard way, the Ladies State Championship is on today, there were only 5 live tables going. 400 ladies started and the were only down to 390 when I left, they will be opening tables as they break, so be forewarned.

Teaches you not to get up so early. I just got done taking my daughter to the train park, and am waiting for the babysitter. I'll roll in around 11:30 and be trying to learn at Omaha 8 without losing too much, in a lime green polo shirt.

Careful, there are some very accomplished nut-peddlers in the O8 games....

The difference between the daytime v. nighttime 08 game at CA is huge. Daytime has many good players. I generally find that the action in the daytime is very small and you'll be playing the same cards as many of the other players. At night, ~9pm or so, the gamblers sit down. That's the time to play, imo.

Thank you howard, I feel much better.
So I suppose if it takes me four or five hours to dump a buy-in during the day, I could possibly do ok in the evening, this is the best thing I've heard in weeks. I thought it was hopeless.

I almost never play in the day game because it's just no good. I mostly play HE these days (who doesn't?) but I keep an eye on the 08 at night and when the pots get big I know the line-up is good and I sometimes sit in. The pots will be 5-10x bigger than the day game. Then just 'play by the book', as boring as that is, and rake in the loot. But it IS boring.

I played thursday and it was incrediably loose passive, I took home $500 despite not knowing how to read the board properly for a low. So I came back on friday ready to cash in again, and dropped $700 and decided I need to learn a little about 08. So I read SuperSystem 2's chapter lats night and was up $95 today.

I'd say that that my impression of players today there were too many players playing too many weak hands preflop, but most of them seemed okay post flop (didn't chase poor draws too much, but didn't like to bet or raise). It definitely wasn't as loose as thursday, and it didn't seem like a goldmine. But take my opinion with a grain of salt, I've only played O8 four times.

Of course I sat in the 20-40 game for five minutes, dropped $190, and was really impressed by the horrible play I saw. I'm thinking of going back to it tomorrow.

If you guys have the roll, you really got to take a shot at the 40/80 game or the 60/120 game. If you think that the 20 game was weak, think of the same thing, but at twice/three times the stakes.

I have sat the 40 game a total of 16 times for a total of ~100 hours this year. I am up in that game >$10K playing straight forward ABC poker, picking the weak/drunk spots and playing them hard and fast. There are some sharks in that game, spot them early, and you should have a significant edge in the short term.

Example...

Solid player raises UTG in a kill pot, maniac RR, yet another maniac RR, I cap from the BN with AA, SB and BB and the rest of the room calls. Flop 6 ways AAK, comes back to me capped, 6 to the turn AAK9 two spades, comes to me 2 bets, I raise, SB calls, BB caps, 6 to the river AAK93 three spades, comes to me capped, 6 to the showdown... UTG KK, maniac 1 QsTs, maniac 2 KsJs, SB 66, BB 99... It took me three hands to rack that pot, LOL. Too bad there is no BBJ in the time games.

I don't know if anything compares to to 5-150. Today a hispanic kid with about 2k in front of him and two coronas behindg him is playing super LAG. Button (older hispanic gentleman from El Paso) raises to 15, he reraises to 60, OG calls. Flop is 975 rainbow. Kid bets $100, OG goes over the top $150, Kid immediately goes back over the top to make it $400. OG hesitates for a moment, then goes over the top to make it $550.

Kid fumbles some chips thinking, finally OG says "what are you waiting for homeboy". Kid calls. OG's all in on turn blank with his final $15. Kid calls. The hands? Obviously AA & KK, right? Nope, OG had a set of sevens. The kid? AKo. A $1200+ pot and he was drawing dead on the flop.
