What death affected you most?

Whether it is a family member, friend, or even just a celebrity, what death has impacted you the most in your life? What have you learned from it and how has it affected your life?

All of my relatives from grandparents on down are still alive so I would have to say Chris Street, a basketball player at Iowa who died in a car crash in 1993?? when I was 9 or so. I cried my eyes out that day and to this day I use his #40 in usernames at various non-poker websites and I wore #40 while I sat on the bench in HS b-ball.<<yea I suck at b-ball>>

I haven't really had anyone close to me die. My great grandma died, that's as close as it gets. She was the nicest person I've met. I'm pretty old compared to most of OOT (25).

Am I the only one who hasn't been affected by death yet?

nothing too significant. But a dude who I went to school with (he dropped out or transferred in like 9th grade or something) got murdered in a drug deal that went bad when he (and therefore me) was like 19 years old. It didn't suprise too much because he was well beyond a 'trouble maker', but it kind of reminded me I was in the real world. I grew up in a fairly sheltered life

A very close friend's 6-month-old son. It hit me a lot harder either of the grandparents I've lost.

my grandmother died my sophomore year of college and although it was tragic it was probably the greatest bonding experience I've ever had with my family.

My mother. Well shes not dead, but they have stopped chemo treatments and gave an estimate of 3 months left to live.

I would not try to fight cancer unless they give me at least a 75-80 percent chance to beat it. Chemo tears through you, I would rather live a great life then go through what she has gone through.

Shes only in her 50s so one other thing I learned from it is not to take everyday for granted.
