Difference between Limit and Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo

Yesterday I was playing with my poker tracker databases and poker grapher and found this drastic difference between my total winnings in limit and pot limit respectively.

Limit results: (Most hands were played at the $0.5/$1 level at party between January and May this year. My play was tight preflop (VP$IP 19.6) and standard postflop, which means I played my strong hands and my draws if the pot odds were sufficient.)

Pot Limit results: (These hands were played since June mostly at Party, Paradise and Prima at buy-ins between $25 and $100. In PLO8 I am slightly loose preflop (VP$IP 34.1). Postflop my main goal is to get as much money in the pot if I am the favorite to win the hand otherwise I will mostly fold.)

Of course I knew that I was an only slightly better than break even player in limit. But nevertheless looking at the results was perplexing. I can see two possible reasons for the above results. Either I suck at limit, then let us discuss which skills are particularly important for limit, or one needs a lot more hands in limit compared to pot limit to get in the long run.

your game is probably better for plo8 than lo8. i'm guessing you fold WAY too much post-flop (gotta love the multiple draws to draws) and/or you're not aggressive enough. i'll leave the finer analysis to the lo8 specialists.

also, it could just be that villains collectively make bigger mistakes at plo8. that's the beauty of big bet poker.

Re: Poker Grapher

I am using Poker Grapher 1.3.5 (in any case the name of the installer is PokerGrapherInstallv135.exe). You must have installed the Microsoft .Net Framework library on your computer in order to run Poker Grapher. Even so you will get an error message if you try to start Poker Grapher but you can just ignore that. It is also important that Poker Tracker is open before you run Poker Grapher.

Hope that helps.

Re: Win rate

My win rate at the moment is 14.8 PTBB/100. But the predominant opinion in this forum is that an excellent player should be able to reach a win rate of 18-20 PTBB/100 at these low stakes. So my win rate is nothing special.

Actually I tried to play these multiple back door draws if the pot was big enough (for example back door nut low draw + back door nut flush draw with pot odds better than 1:10).

It could be possible that I called a little to much turn bets/raises. Then I had to call the river too because of pot odds. But I am not sure.
