Dealing with a 20 buyin downswing

I have been playing and making money at poker for 1.5 years now. This past week I seem to be on a terrible downswing and can't seem to shake out of it.

Nothing seems to be going right. My big hands get cracked by rediculous hands. I never thought variance could be this bad. I'm down 20 buyins in a game I used to crush. I feel sick and can't sleep. I'm overrolled right now, and the money isn't really the problem. I just hate losing... I manage to get someone all in with the worst of it, and it doesn't matter... they pull some miracle card and take it. Then I feel like I was cheated.

I don't know if anyone will respond to this, or what kind of advice I am looking for... I just want this to stop...

Evaluate your play. See if you are getting the money in good as much as you think you should. If you are, then this terrible run will end, probably right now. So calm down, relax, and go win .

Re: Dealing with a 20 buyin downswing

I ran bad for about 12000 hands.

The beats were hideous, unbelievable, the worst ever suffered by man.

I had laughed previously at people bemoaning such a poor run of luck. But there I was suddenly realising it was not only possible but probable.

It just kept going on and on, I could do nothing about it.

Then I tried something, it was desperate by then afterall.

I looked at the last 30,000 hands I played, to see what a winning play looked like and what a losing play looked like.

Thank god I did, coz those "bad beats" were certainly enhanced by increasingly bad play.

Stop blaming the cards and start blaming yourself, your bankroll will love you for it.

Your game has probably been affected by some bad beats. Don't play in stress and tired trying to get your moneyback because you'll end up losing much more almost for sure. Just make a break and start playing when you feel fine.

If you are getting it in with the best of it, then you don't need to re-evluate your game. If you are having people call you preflop with 65s then you hand over your stack everytime your overpair gets cracked, then you need to re-evaluate your game.
