Oh how I wish Detoit would close all their poker rooms

How I miss the good ole days of the home games that used to run rampant around town. No limit was rarely played, but some of the $5-10 up to $20-40 were the loosest around and the best I'd ever seen. I would usually start the game out and play until it ended. Then the casinos came around and everyone wanted to play in the casino since it was legal and who can blame 'em?

Sometimes you'd only be eating pizza (if you were lucky), but at other places there were REALLY nice home cooked meals. I was playing in a home game every day of the week and I miss the round by round games too. Sure at some places people would be blowing smoke in your face, but that's what those little fans were for. Besides that I like to play in a game where the people who are playing aren't concerned about their health. Those are some good gamblers!

Now we have Motor City w/ their crazy time charge at the no limit games and their $6+$1 for the bad beat rake at all the limit games and on top of that the dealers are doing you a favor if they get out 30 hands an hour. If you don't like that you can (if you're crazy enough) go down the road to Greektown where the staff is STILL the worst I've seen in the country, but hey if you play for 4 hours you can get a hot dog AND chips and even worse dealers!

One problem is that many of the bad players I used to play with can play any time and any day of the week. Instead of giving their money to me they're giving it to some schmuck they never even met! You don't see some of the looser players around anymore because they went bust faster than they would have if the casino wasn't around. It was nice when you knew where they'd be and you knew where to find them next week if they went broke this week!

Perhaps I got spoiled this year by the great games in Vegas, CT and California and I came to realize just how bad it is here. Regardless I miss the atmosphere (and easy money!) of the home games :-(.

I feel for you man even though I feel the opposite way.

I learned how to play poker in that stinkhole Greektown and now I play at Foxwoods. As Jlo sings "makes me play a little bit stronger..."

Everything seems like a country club after you have played in Detroit It was a great boot camp for poker and it is even greater that I am not coming back!

ps I heard they are having trouble with the limit games. Is it still true?

My buddy and I were playing at Greektown a while back. The dealer pitches a card over the rail onto my friends lap.
Dealer ask him "You want to keep that card?"
Friend asks "Do I have a choice?"
Dealer says "Sure."
We both look at each other in disbelief.
Friend asks "Can I look at first", just joking really.
Dealer says "Sure."
We both laughed out loud.

Just terrible.....

Yeah I'll probably be in Vegas for good by the end of the year. At least that's the plan. I'll sure miss good ole Michigan though.

I haven't been to MC in a few weeks, but there usually isn't a shortage of limit games. In fact the lists are generally jam packed. I hear Greektown has had problems though

I have never heard anything good about the Detroit casinos on 2+2. Which make wonder if you all have played up at Mt. Pleasent? Better than Detroit, about the same? I live close to 127 in Ohio and it is about the same drive for me to goto Soaring Eagle. What is your opinion? I have never played live and am eager for some experience.
Thanks

Soaring Eagle isnt the greatest of rooms, 18 tables. They spread usually 3/6 LHE, 6/12 LHE, and the 1/2NL.

They have a 10/20 LHE game that will usually as well, but its not guarenteed, either is the 6/12 latley actually haha.

But if you want to play 3/6 or 1/2NL the games are generally good from my experience.

But if your looking for consistent limit games this isnt the place, as the 6/12 and 10/20 (sometimes it though gets bumped to 15/30) do not go everyday guarenteed.

What time do they close during the week and on the weekend? The poker room isn't 24 hours is it? What's the max buyin on the 1/2NL? Do they have a 2/5NL ever?

During the week they close at 2am, and on weekends they run around the clock. the 1/2NL game is 50min-100max and rebuy below 50. They also dont have 2-5, 100max is the biggest NL game.

Although I have only visited Detroit casinos once I find your statement hard to believe, Detroit is on the bottom o my list for card rooms in the nation, I've traveled a lot and been to a lot of rooms all over, trust me when I say Detroit has it bad.
