Fantasy Football Trade Question
 

I have the 10th pick in a 12 person draft that nakes, so I also have the 3rd pick in the 2nd round. If I can trade my 1st, 2nd, 4th and 12th round picks for the 5th pick and his 2nd and 4th round picks (basically moving up 5 picks in the first round, moving down 5 picks in 2nd and 4th, and giving up a late round pick), is this a good trade for me?

What similar types of trades have you tried in the past? What moves do you think I can make so I'm not looking at Rudi Johnson or Steven Jackson as my RB1?

This would be a terrible trade for you, depending on some strange rule variation of course.

Also, if you get Steven Jackson at #10 you are in good shape.

don't do it and S. Jackson or R. Johnson as your first back will fine esp. when your second back should be strong

good chance you can get C. Williams, R. Brown, etc. for second back

trading draft picks in a league like this always sounds cool, but in reality its generally not worth it. Really, the only leagues where trading draft picks should come into play imo, is in keeper leagues.

i say easy take, but it's clear i'm outnumbered here.

edit: confounding the issue is that rudi johnson may be your best pick at number 5 anyway. if you're going to be taking him either way, obviously this is a bad trade for you.

if my previous posts haven't made it totally clear, i believe the concept of having a good second running back is really overrated. you will usually get better numbers out of one star and one late second rounder or early third rounder. i think a team drafting LJ and then having the last pick in every subsequent round is in better shape than one drafting 10th in a snake.

If you could trade up to the 3 spot and get either Johnson/Tomlinson/Alexander, this trade may be worth it. As it stands this year, the 4-8 picks are the worst picks that you can have. You will be choosing from Barber/Portis/Edge, depending upon who is taken 4th. It would be much better to stay in the 10 spot and get a decent back in the second round also.

FWIW, I am looking for Rudi Johnson to have a monster year this year. If you took his stats for the last 8 games and multiplied them by two, the only people with better seasons would have been Johnson and Alexander.

I think the fifth pick is about the worst position you can have this season. I prefer to be in the top three or at the end, where you are now. There is a big dropoff after the first three IMO, and now with the Portis uncertainty, I think the next six or so backs are all roughly equal(Rudi, Edge, Brown, Caddy, Tiki, Lamont, SJax). Portis was the clear number four, but this little injury has bumped him down with the players mentioned before. The injury is probably nothing, but you want your first rounder to be sure thing.

Since Steven Jackson and Rudi Johnson are in reality the 4th and 5th best fantasy backs this year, if you are going to get one of them at 10, I wouldn't worry so much. The problem is, you are really looking at Ronnie Brown, Brian Westbrook, or Cadillac Williams if everyone drafts properly.

I would make the deal, to insure that I got Jackson/Johnson.
