Tough spot to get into a pissing match. He's not often folding to a t500 say raise, but it will probably give you the river. Simply calling this little lead may get you there at a similar expense, but with our 'disinterest', maybe not. He folds to the raise occasionally as well. With our stack I'd make it t500 to go, maintaining the check-call line through river if we hit.
