Found a ??homeless?? dog? What should I do?
 

When I went to take my own dog for a walk yesterday I saw a little tiny dog covering and whimpering in the corner. I checked on the dog to make sure he was alright which he appeared to be fine.

I can't tell if this dog is homeless or not. It has not collar, its nails are extremely long, but it smells like it has just been washed. I let the dog in the house and now don't know what to do with it.

To further complicate the situation I am moving out of the apartment bulding where I found the dog today. I am going to print up some flyers and post them at the old apartment but if no ones comes forward what should I do?

I am moving into a house that already has 2 dogs so keeping the dog is definetly an option but I don't want to take someoene else's dog away if they are looking for it.

The flyers are a good idea, and let the local shelters know you have the dog.

Congratulations you're a good person for doing this. If the dog didn't get claimed for a couple days at the shelter, they'd have likely euthanized it.

Call animal control and have them get it. If someone lost the dog and care at all about it, theyve already called the pound looking for it, so when a dog comes in matching the description they gave they will get a call. This has a much better chance of getting the owner their dog back than hanging up fliers. (assuming the owner wants it back, lots of people just abandon dogs like this). Plus it means you wont run the risk of getting attached and then it being hard to give the dog back, or ending up with a dog you never planned on having.

If the dog is a little puppy, you dont have to worry about it getting whacked at the shelter, hell get adopted no problem.

If you are willing to keep the dog if there is no owner then you shouldn't take it to the pound. Who knows what will happen but if he ends up in the pound it's very likely he ends up dead. And on top of that if you just hold the dog and post flyers in the neighborhood that would find the owner just as fast if not faster. If no owner shows up and you keep the dog then you are doing a good deed.

Eat it, small dogs are tasty and considered a delicacy in many countries.

call the local humane society... if you want to keep it then tell them that you will be willing to take care of it indefinitly until it is claimed and adopt it if no one comes foreward
