Nanny State and Gambling.

Hey, I just posted a cool article that's political but more appropriate for the legislation forum here:

Some people call it the nanny state. I prefer "The War on Fun."

I like it and will use "WOF" in the future.

This poll is invalid

The war on drugs and the war on terror are not disparate entities, they are immutably linked.

Oh yeah, and Bush rocks, or something clever.

Unfortunately there is a logical hole in her argument that

the real reason for the bill to curtail online gambling: "This year alone, Americans will send $5.9 billion to unregulated, offshore, online casinos."

If that were the real driver behind the issue then the legislation would be to regulate, not eliminate. Regulation of internet wagering would be no harder, and in fact probably easier, then live legal wagering, and far easier than live illegal wagering.

LOL, that's great. That could be our official slogan. I'd love to see this phrase catch on, as it perfectly points out the stupidity and f'ed up priorities of our government.

"Tonight at 11: the Senate launches it's next offensive in the War on Fun."

I don't think Bush rocks, but Democrats and Republicans have been united in fighting fun and drugs for a long time. The documentary Grass tried to ignore Democratic participation by not mentioning Clinton at all (movie was from 99) and pretending that Carter really really wanted to legalize weed but his presidency was going so bad he couldn't. But his heart was in it!
Yeah, right.
As for terror, we know Clinton did nothing so that may be partisan but the other two are not.

No, no man, they'd do it but slant it to, "This Week on 60 Minutes: The Senate Launches its Save Kids from Inappropriate Convulsions from Overlaughter which have been proven to decrease life expectancy from 78.3 years to 78.1! We must ask fast...here's a poker tax on all unwashed chips..."

I will certainly be the first to agree with you that both partys have waged this WOF. It's for our own good though, individuals can't be trusted to maeke their own decisions. Monopolists organizations flled with individuals must have full time jobs to decide what we should and shouldn't do for our own good.

They are the enlightened ones.
