In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
$10-20 limit or $1-2NL. Of course I understand that table selection is the most important consideration, but in general which pays more?
The rakes in both are sky high. The 10-20 rakes 10% up to $6 plus a dollar from every pot for the bad beat. The NL is a $200 max buyin and you can't reload 'til you are below $50. There is a $6/half hour time charge plus $1 every hand for the bad beat. For you Michiganders you'll notice that I'm assuming the Motor City game. In general though I wonder if a $1-2NL game "pays" more than a $10-20 limit game? I know the variance will surely be higher in limit |

Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
like any poker question "it depends"
which game are you better at? do you have 300+ hours in either game to have any decent chance at knowing your expected return Personally I have made $27/hr playin 10-20 and around $18/hr playing 1-2 NL, granted the rake where i played wasnt as bad as your situation - also bankrolls matter a lot, if you want to do this with a small BR, go for 1-2 |
Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
Interesting. I don't have 300 hours of 10-20 for at least the past 3 years since I've played NL exclusively.
I used to play $2-5NL and have over 1500 hours logged there. I did really well, but when they got rid of that in favor of $5-10NL I switched to $1-2NL. I was wondering if I was better off playing that or the $10-20? At the $1-2NL I'm making $21.61/hour over 276 hours which surprised me. Since the $1-2NL game has been tightening up and I wondered if I was better off playing limit? I guess I was looking for a general answer to a question that can't be answered so easily |
Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
I would assume that you have a pretty decent roll if you were doing well at 2/5NL. I also assume that the 5/10 is uncapped or something like that or you would have just moved up when they decided to run instead of the 2/5 game.
Since you are more or less a NL specialist, play the 1/2 and sit the 5/10 when the game is good and you are running good. |
Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
a good NL player can destroy these weak NL games, the 10/20 games can be beat, but i think that even with good game selection the NL games will have better games overall and worse play.
i'm going against the crowd here and saying the 1/2 game just because that rake is going to murder your hourly rate. |
Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
I think it's basically the same.

Re: In Which game will your $/hour be higher?
My earn would be much higher in the 1/2 NL because my limit game sucks.

Yeah NL games in general seem to be better since everyone wants to play that now thanks to tv :-).
