End of year two of music theory, the final is a "total serial" composition in which every aspect of the piece (pitches, rhythms, dynamics, articulations, and so forth) is determined by a 12-note row and its permutations (inverted, retrograde, and retrograde inversion).

FWIW, the row I used is:

C, C#, D#, F#, B, G, Ab, F, Bb, E, D, A

which was determined by counting halfsteps from C based on the fibonacci series.

Are you serious??? I thought it was a joke at first. I mean, I don't want to be hurtful, but that sounds an awful lot like you hooked your electric piano up to your midi program and just started banging randomly. I really didn't like it. But I always encourage people to do music, so that's cool you're trying.

Never really got the twelve tone extremely dissonant type of stuff. Always seemed like a painter painting a math problem on a canvas. Yeah it's the same medium but it's not intriguing or beautiful, or anything that art should be, to me. But I'd love to hear how I'm wrong here, so please educate me.

What on earth, i applaud the fact you've done 2 years of music theory. But to me that does sound like a racket. Is melody and harmony not important?

You seem knowledgeable though, so i'm assuming it's meant to sound like that, and will get you a good mark. Please explain it more.

In theory, I'm sure this is fine. In practice, you are going to need a much longer explanation as to why this is listenable or interesting.

If I had to describe this in music terms and leyman terms I would say discordant and rubbish.

I had to study the different serialisms among other styles in my music class. Meh, not my type of stuff.

So much of this kind of music is sold in the quality of the performance. Since it's all computerized, it's imposible to appreciate attempts at sound quality, phrasing, etc.

I remember playing Milton Babbitt's 'All Set' in college. The music was completely serial, but when performed by a jazz septet (I think) the musicianship revealed itself and it was a big hit with audiences and musicians alike.

Once you orchestrate and get real musicians behind this kind of thing, the content can really sing.

Appreciate the musician's sound and artistry and not necessarily the pitch content.
