I have no idea how to play JJ

I made the transition to NL this month. I've played 9k hands of NL25 and I'm down $100 with pocket Jacks, my biggest loser by far, so clearly I have no idea what I'm doing. What's my line for this situation?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) internettexasholdem.com

MP3 ($84.75)
CO ($28.10)
Button ($15.65)
SB ($18.68)
BB ($34.46)
UTG ($23.11)
Hero ($21.40)
UTG+2 ($71.41)
MP1 ($6.53)
MP2 ($24.90)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.10.

Reload preflop.

I would call and hope to see a huge multiway pot that doesn't get reraised and play for set value. I don't play full ring, so don't know if that is cool or not.

I'm probably raising to 6-8. depending on any kind of read I have. Calling isn't really an option because I don't like inviting people behind me to make this a multi way pot when my hand stinks multi way.

Unless I had a read, I would call here for set value.

I'd raise to $4 or $5. If he calls, cbet any flop. If he calls and the board is still favorable (no overs, or a set, etc) I'm prolly pushing the turn.

If the board sucks and he calls the flop, I CB on the turn, cry a little and usually fold the river unless he minbets or something.

You've got to have a read on Villain here; he's raising 8x, which is a heck of a lot. Is that his standard? Is he a maniac? A total nit?

Without reads it's crank it or fold with that small stack, and I'm folding more often than not. Nits love to raise big with huge pairs, and your stack is small enough to make this one marginal for set value alone. Reload. Only call if you think he'll stack off every time you hit your set.

AJ,

I like the idea here, but you won't see many people calling 8x -- even at NL25.

call and look for the set
then fold when you miss
that is all

I don't have the math to back it up, but I do remember reading sklansky (TOP or HPFAP) about how JJ is best HU-4 handed. I guess a case can be made for playing for set value, I didn't realize that the raise was 8x the BB. This is a spot where a read helps a ton.
